What is repeat dispensing?

Repeat Dispensing (Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) is an important part of EPS (electronic prescription service) which offers a multitude of benefits over paper prescription, repeat prescribing and dispensing.

How does eRD work?

Repeat dispensing protocol is simple: you just give informal (verbal) permission to nominate us (Anna Pharmacy) to receive eRD. The GP can then prescribe and store up to 12 months of prescriptions at a time. eRD then stores all of the prescriptions securely and allows us to download them at the intervals predetermined by your GP. If any changes need to be made, the system allows for a single line to be changed, or the whole prescription to be changed, with one simple action from your GP.

You may have some medications you take on a PRN, or “as needed” basis. eRD allows these medications to be prescribed at intervals pre determined by the prescriber.

At Anna Pharmacy, we utilise award winning, highly secure, EMIS healthcare software systems in order to ensure your eRD experience is worry-free.

How does eRD benefit me?

  • You won’t need to contact the surgery for reorders unless you experience changes in your medical condition
  • You can request additional dispenses via us/your pharmacy if you are going on holiday
  • You can change your nominated dispenser at your convenience anytime during the duration of your prescription
  •  You’ll have regular contact with your dispenser who will keep an eye that your circumstances have not changed since your prescription was issued. If so, the pharmacist will advise you as to what to do.

Anna Pharmacy now officers Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and assistance for patients with repeat dispensing protocols in Sutton, Carshalton, Croydon and Hackbridge.
