Malaria is a serious, potentially life-threatening infection spread by mosquito bites in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. With the right preparation, it is largely preventable. At Anna Pharmacy Group, our pharmacists provide personalised antimalarial prescriptions and expert travel health advice as part of our travel clinic. We have branches in Carshalton, Sutton, and Hackbridge, and we welcome patients from Cheam, Purley, Wallington, South Croydon, Mitcham, Rosehill, St Heliers, and Morden.
Our antimalarial and travel health service is available at all three Anna Pharmacy Group branches:

Malaria is not found in the UK, but it is prevalent across large parts of the world. High-risk regions include sub-Saharan Africa, South and South-East Asia, Central and South America, parts of the Caribbean, the Middle East, and some Pacific islands. A single mosquito bite from an infected insect is all it takes.
If you were born or previously lived in a high-risk country but have settled in the UK, your natural immunity will have faded. You need the same precautions as any other traveller. For country-specific risk information, Travel Health Pro provides authoritative guidance at travelhealthpro.org.uk/factsheet/52/malaria.
Book your travel health appointment at least four to six weeks before departure. If your trip is sooner, do not delay. Here is what to expect when you book with us:
Our pharmacist will review your destination, itinerary, and health history to determine your malaria risk and the most suitable antimalarial medication for you.
Different antimalarials suit different destinations and individuals. We can prescribe and dispense the right option for your trip, and explain exactly when to start, how to take it, and when to stop after returning home.
No medication is 100 per cent protective, so bite prevention is equally important. We will advise on DEET-based repellents, appropriate clothing for evening wear, and the correct use of insecticide-treated bed nets.
We can also advise on vaccinations relevant to your destination, so everything you need for a safe trip is covered in one appointment.
